Great Techniques For Effective Time Management

Time management is essential for effective people.  People using efficient time management techniques habitually are among the top achievers in different fields, from business to public to sport service.    Using time management techniques enables one to function remarkably well, even when under extreme pressure.  Moreover as time management skills are mastered, one finds that they can take control of the workload, and say farewell to the frequent stress and pressures of work overload.

There are several techniques for time management, but it’s helpful to start with practical and simple techniques –this will make it easy to quickly start taking control of your time.  A fast way to eliminate very common “time-wasters” is to beat procrastination and “activity logs”.  On the other hand, plan of action and “to-do” lists will help one focus on very important short-term activities.

Beat procrastination

Most people find themselves putting-off significant tasks repeatedly.  In fact, almost anyone has procrastinated in one way or another –but there are those who have really been “chronically affected” by procrastination hindering them from achieving things they are capable of doing, and disrupting their careers.

The solution to controlling and eventually combating this damaging habit is recognizing when you’re beginning to procrastinate, understand why it’s occurring, and taking active steps for better managing time and outcomes.

Activity logs

If you really want to manage your time effectively, then it’s important to find out how you’re really spending it.  Do you know how long it takes for you to do unimportant things?  Things that do not actually contribute to work success, or time spent talking with colleagues, reading junk mail, making coffee, or longer lunch breaks, are some activity logs that lessen your time on more important things that need to be accomplished.

Many people find that they function at dissimilar “effectiveness levels” at different times during the day as the energy levels fluctuate.  One’s effectiveness can vary, depending on blood sugar, the time length from last break, discomfort, routine distraction, stress, and lots of other factors.

To manage time effectively, an activity log is a great tool to help you analyze how you’re really spending your time daily.  Periodically do this during the day.  Record your activities, and note how you’re feeling –tired, flat, energetic, alert, etc.  Learn from your log by analyzing which activities need to be lessened or eliminated to free-up extra time for more important things.

Plan of action

A plan of action can be a simple list of every task that needs to be carried out to accomplish the objective.  It’s different from the “to-do” list because it centers on achieving a “single” goal.  An “action plan” helps in letting you think about the things that need to get done to achieve the main goal, enabling you to get some help where it’s needed, and monitor the progress.

To make a plan of action, simply write down the tasks that need to get done to accomplish the goal.  “SCHEMES” is a helpful checklist –Space, Cash, Helpers, Equipment, Materials, Expertise, and Systems.

To-do list

This is a primary step to beat the work overload.  A to-do list is a “prioritized” list of every task that needs to be carried out.  It’s everything that you’d have to do, with the vital tasks on “top priority”, while the least important ones at the bottom.   Maintaining a to-do list effectively becomes the first time management advancement for people, as they begin to accomplish success in their careers.  A to-do list enables one to capture in one place all the tasks that need to be accomplished, reducing stress and increasing effective time management.

Time management enables one to spend their days productively and efficiently, as they no longer concentrate their biggest efforts on unimportant things.  After all, time management is all about concentrating on results, and not on being busy.
