Is happiness really a choice one can make? People view happiness invariably. And levels of happiness vary with everyone. Like, one can be happy after knowing he or she loses some pounds, or landed on his or her dream job, or even just gotten out from plastic surgery. Such momentous events are labeled as a “set point.” It is when people count their happiness from what they can acquire physically. Anyhow, happiness is a matter of choice, isn’t it?

Your own sources of blissfulness, as well as contentment, are yours alone to make. Some may call it as subjective well-being. This is so, as one either opts to live a happy life, or a life of frustrations, misery, and despair. A notable example to this is someone gaining weight and feels bad about it and detests her appearance. Her loathe towards the whole situation increases every time she eats, which eventually makes her fat anyway. Note that the negative feelings are not obtained by someone else, or occurred by accident. And the very person who hates them, as she chose to munch on fatty foods instead of following a healthy diet, implored those feelings.

To choose and to make a decision is one of divine gifts that human beings are endowed with. Therefore, if you have a choice of what to eat or should you exercise or not, then you can likewise make a move to be happy, as well as the ability to create and set new tools to bolster your well-being.

You reap what you sowed proves to be really true. As you speak of nothing but good things to the person you meet on the way to work, you will eventually hear kind words in return. With every kind word is a kind echo. This is just one of the many beneficial things you can do every day. Another is to help anybody in need of it, or show appreciation and gratitude to anybody doing you a favor, or simply pat someone’s hand or back to show you care or that you are there for him or her. Who knows, your timely pat or smile has illuminated someone’s day, making him or her happy while at the same time, making you feel better and happier. Positive actions always yield positive results and emotions that are colossal to happiness.

Importantly, the wonderful and inspiring deeds you shared with others will come back to you in the long run, although not in the exact manner you gave them away, but in ways to make you happy. Happiness comes from emotions or as a result of a positive action, and certainly not from the material aspects of existence. Thus, you can choose to be merry by doing the things that can make you and others happy, or changing your attitudes into something more benevolent, or take part into something that you know can better your existence and your character.

To start with, get hold of your emotions. Do not let them control you, especially the negative kind. If you let a strong and negative emotion devour you, happiness has no room to stay. Emotions constantly change with every situation you go through. But the choice is yours whether or not you allow yourself to be engulfed in it or not. You have to make a choice regardless of circumstances. If you opt to stay happy, then you will know how to deal with your changing emotions in order for you to stay happy. Thus, the more you can control your emotions, the greater chance of happiness there is for you.

Set your mind to be happy. It is of utmost essence that you carefully choose your thoughts. If happiness is a choice, naturally, it starts with the mind. Thinking of unpleasant thoughts and memories lead to a forlorn state. The odd thereof, is you will be unhappy. Make rules easier and you will find yourself happier. After all, happiness is a choice, so you have the volition to let it stay with you.
